Energy Exemplar, the developer of PLEXOS desktop and PLEXOS Connect® client-server software, is a global leader in simulation software with existing offices in London and Adelaide. The acquisition, and integration of the Sacramento office, is expected to open new opportunities for Energy Exemplar to develop its information services business and consultancy in the electric power industry.

The development team have been at it again producing Energy Exemplar’s first ever and new cloud simulation software of PLEXOS Connect® Client-server Edition. This release is the client-server and distributed computing companion to the PLEXOS simulation software. Connect extends the desktop user interface of PLEXOS to provide server-based storage and version control of simulation datasets and solutions. In addition Connect can manage and distribute simulation jobs around a network of connected clients. National Grid (nationalgrid.com) has selected PLEXOS® for Power Systems (PLEXOS) as its electricity market dispatch simulator.
National Grid, as Transmission System Operator (TSO), is responsible for the efficient, economic and coordinated management of electricity flows in the transmission system of the Great British Electricity Market (GBEM). National Grid’s system operation costs incurred through the Balancing Mechanism, procurement of ancillary services such as reserve and frequency response and the cost of resolving transmission congestions. The challenge facing National Grid is to forecast and manage operating costs within the target agreed to by the regulator Ofgem (ofgem.gov.uk), who will also be using the PLEXOS software .
The intelligent use of state-of-the-art electric power market simulation software to aid in forecasting transmission congestion and the economic cost of that congestion are crucial to achieving this goal. National Grid has selected PLEXOS in this role. The extensive feature set offered by PLEXOS represented a solution flexible enough to fit National Grid’s challenging needs while achieving the forecast accuracy critical to success.
