Energy Exemplar Europe has published a new white paper titled, ‘Integrated Renewable Power, Gas & Heat (DH) Systems & Markets Co-ordination and Co-optimization using PLEXOS® Integrated Energy Model, authored by Mrs Peny Panagiotakopoulou & Dr Christos Papadopoulos. The scope of this paper is to present the methodology and results of integrated modelling, simulation and co-optimization of Renewable Power, Gas & Heat Systems & Markets employing PLEXOS® Integrated Energy Model and accounting for all characteristics unique to each “subsystem”. The trend towards a more interrelated energy industry calls for the need of multi-optimization models which will consider simultaneously all systems & markets components, in order to deliver better and more sophisticated Resource Planning capabilities combined with robust economic benefit and strategic development analysis.

Energy Exemplar has published a new whitepaper titled, ‘Different types of electricity markets modelled using PLEXOS® Integrated Energy Model – The UK Balancing Market example’, authored by Energy Exemplar’s European Senior Power System Consultant, Mrs Peny Panagiotakopoulou. The aim of this paper with related case study is to demonstrate how day- ahead, intra- day and real- time balancing markets can be integrated in just one PLEXOS database; using as an example the GB balancing market, and how system and market operators can benefit from such a model design and optimization tool. At the moment, within the EU region each country has its own market design and particular rules for electricity cross-border exchanges. The EU plans to forge a competitive and transparent wholesale electricity market with a high level of security of supply that serves the interests of electricity consumers and increases the welfare of European citizens. PLEXOS Integrated Energy Model, with its sophisticated features and robust optimization techniques, is a valuable tool in order to capture the temporal ordering of the different electricity markets, including futures & forward markets, day- ahead, intra- day, balancing & imbalance (real time) markets.
