ENTSOG and Energy Exemplar sign a multi-year licence agreement for the PLEXOS integrated power and gas energy simulation platform.
The European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) aims to ensure the development of a pan-European transmission system. ENTSOG supports 44 TSO Members, 3 Associated Partners and 9 Observers across Europe. Key ENTSOG studies and publications include the Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP) and Annual Summer and Winter Supply Outlooks; ENTSOG also supports gas Transmission System Operators (TSOs) in producing their Gas Regional Investment Plans (GRIPs). These important European planning documents require ENTSOG to perform detailed modelling of the European gas infrastructure and market fundamentals, and ENTSOG has chosen Energy Exemplar’s PLEXOS integrated energy simulation platform to support business requirements.
“We look forward to starting a new page in modelling the European Gas Infrastructure with PLEXOS.” said Jan Ingwersen, General Director of ENTSOG. “We conducted an extensive search to replace our existing internal processes and PLEXOS meets our requirements for today and into the future. We have chosen PLEXOS for its robust modelling capability and the ability to co-optimize the gas pipeline grid and power transmission network simultaneously. The PLEXOS platform also allows us to collaborate with ENTSO-E who also deploy PLEXOS for electricity transmission planning.”
One of ENTSOG’s requirements was to be able to model the increasingly important sector integration between power and gas markets in Europe, and PLEXOS’s powerful capabilities mean the ENTSOG modeller can develop detailed, transmission-level representations of both gas and power markets within the same model and test multiple scenarios of gas and power flows across and within Europe.
“We are extremely excited to be working with the incredible staff at ENTSOG” said David Wilson, CEO, Energy Exemplar. “We look forward to collaborating with ENTSOG staff as they model changes in the gas landscape. With the potential co-optimization of hydrogen, renewable power, and electricity, the PLEXOS engine can help planners and analysts across their extended organisation.”
The role of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) is to facilitate and enhance co-operation between national gas transmission system operators (TSOs) across Europe, to ensure the development of a pan-European transmission system in line with the European Union energy goals. ENTSOG currently has 44 TSO Members and three Associated Partners from 27 European countries. (www.entsog.eu)
