Sub-hourly modelling, high-resolution modelling is very important when it comes to understanding flexibility. This case study includes the results of future low-carbon and negative emissions of the EU power system modelling as well as a three-step 'how-to' run sub-hourly modeling with PLEXOS.
The authors’ top sub-hourly modelling tips:
- Get your hourly modelling working properly first, and make sure you understand your system.
- Test a day at 5-minute resolution before diving in. Keep an eye on the log files to see if anything is eating up computational time.
- If you have large thermal units or very inflexible units, then commit these at hourly resolution as it is unlikely that they would recommitted within 5-minute intervals.
