PLEXOS Aurora Product Update

At Energy Exemplar, we continue to enhance energy modeling and market operations with powerful new updates. This month, PLEXOS® Intelligence, an AI assistant for Cloud users, launches, PLEXOS 11.0 R01 GA introduces key improvements in transmission, emissions, and gas modeling, and PLEXOS 10.0 R08 delivers final optimizations including better search in PLEXOS Cloud, compute credit tracking, and Marketplace enhancements. Plus, experience up to 50% faster runtimes with a free trial of Aurora on PLEXOS Cloud for existing Aurora customers.

PLEXOS 11.0 R01 GA

Major improvements in transmission modeling, emissions tracking, and gas market functionality make this release a significant upgrade. The new LT decomposition and battery stations can help improve the performance of large models. New emissions virtual networks enable emissions tracking to the power demand nodes. Gas LNG harboring and nodal congestion enhancements further round out this PLEXOS release. These features enhance emissions modeling, optimize long-haul delivery, and provide a stronger alternative to other energy modeling software for nodal analysis in the U.S. Stay tuned for further universal support for shipping, gas plant improvements, and weather station improvements in upcoming PLEXOS 11 releases.

PLEXOS 10.0 R08

As the final update and version of PLEXOS 10, this release focuses on refining existing features. Enhancements include new outputs for battery class calculations, improved gas modeling logic, better diagnostics, and more efficient simulation execution. Additional improvements include refinements in the GUI, stronger support for simulation phases, and general bug fixes to improve overall performance. These updates are particularly beneficial for users engaged in long-term planning and gas market modeling.

PLEXOS Playbook and PLEXOS Insights

What is a PLEXOS Playbook?

A PLEXOS Playbook is a use-case focused solution designed for users who need limited editing and output analysis in Excel or a browser. A PLEXOS Playbook allows users to work with a pre-configured model without needing to build one from scratch.

What are PLEXOS Insights?

PLEXOS Insights provide a Modeling as a Service solution for users who need results without having to build and edit a model. PLEXOS Insights products offer browser-based dashboards and API-access to output analysis.

PLEXOS Playbook for European Traders and PLEXOS Insights for European Traders – CWE Power

The PLEXOS Playbook for European Traders and PLEXOS Insights for European Traders – Central and Western European Power now both include 10 countries (GB, DE, FR, NL, BE, AT, ES, PT, IT, CH) and each provides a fundamental model covering D+1 to D+1000. Traders can significantly reduce setup time by leveraging Energy Exemplar’s pre-configured fundamental model which is calibrated daily. Proprietary data sources can be integrated, allowing users to customize dashboards for more informed market analysis. These solutions are ideal for traders, TSOs, analysts, and quants working in Central and Western European power markets.

PLEXOS Cloud Enhancements

We've been rolling out several enhancements over the past few months to improve usability, automation, and analytics in PLEXOS.

November 2024

Updates include an opacity slider for map visualizations, a smarter run configuration panel, extended PLEXOS Cloud Excel Add-in reporting capabilities, and centralized log collection for improved diagnostics.

December 2024

Enhancements focused on data validation and automation. Users now benefit from better filtering for units and membership properties in PLEXOS Cloud Excel Add-in, improved simulation workflows through CLI support, and enhancements to the simulation analytics pages.

January 2025

This release includes the GA version of PLEXOS Intelligence, an AI-powered assistant that helps users troubleshoot issues and analyze outputs. Additional updates include improved search functionality on maps, enhanced compute credit tracking, an updated Marketplace detail page, and CLI performance enhancements.

PLEXOS Intelligence

Now generally available for all PLEXOS Cloud users, PLEXOS Intelligence provides instant support for troubleshooting. AI-driven analysis is also available through PLEXOS Intelligence for customers on the Cloud Analytics tier. Seamless integration with PLEXOS Cloud is enabled by default, but admin controls are available to disable it.

PLEXOS Marketplace

Two newly released nodal datasets for North America are now available in the PLEXOS Marketplace. Customers can submit product-level feedback directly in the Marketplace, while new user guides and in-app Playbook creation guides improve navigation. The Marketplace continues to streamline access to PLEXOS Datasets, PLEXOS Playbooks, and PLEXOS Insights, accelerating time-to-value.

Aurora on PLEXOS Cloud – 6 Months, 10,000 credit, free trial for Aurora Customers

Aurora is now fully integrated with PLEXOS Cloud, delivering up to 60% faster runtimes for large datasets. Users can run PLEXOS and Aurora simulations on the same tenant, improving workflow efficiency and resource management. A free, no-strings-attached, 10,000 credit, 6-month trial is now available for a limited time, allowing all existing Aurora customers to experience cloud performance firsthand. Aurora customers are already enabled. For more details or assistance running simulations on the cloud, reach out to your Customer Success Manager.

What are Simulation Ready Datasets?

PLEXOS datasets provide ready-to-use, simulation-ready data for energy modeling and market analysis. Covering power, gas, and hydrogen markets, these regional datasets include pre-configured inputs that help users run simulations more efficiently. Fully editable datasets allow analysts to adjust assumptions and conduct scenario planning. By leveraging curated datasets, users can accelerate decision-making, improve forecasting accuracy, and streamline workflows—eliminating the need to build models from scratch.

Simulation Ready Datasets

The WECC PLEXOS Zonal Dataset is now live, along with an update to the PLEXOS ERCOT Nodal Addendum, which includes refinements and new scenarios for deeper market insights.
